Francis Marion Stafford was the son of John Stafford and Calista Nott. "Francis Marion Stafford, more familiarly known as "Uncle Bud", was well and favorably recognized throughout Johnson County (, Kentucky). He was born in Paintsville on the home farm, where he resided during a long and useful life, and by great industry and good business judgement became a man of means, and owned one of the best and most valuable farms on Big Sandy, which later became a part of Paintsville."
