!DEATH:
Studying the above census, children were born at regular interva ls
until after 1839 which would indicate the probAbility that Mary
Moffett died about 1838 and that Grant Stafford remarried Fanny
Gregory about 1844.
!CONFLICT:
IGI record shows Sarah's birth as 1 Aug 1833 while the 1850
census would indicate 1834. Since the census was taken 24
Sep 1850 this is probably an allowable error.

She was married to Grant Stafford on 27 Sep 1827 in , Morgan, Indiana, USA. Children were: Emanuel W. Stafford, Wiley Stafford , Riley Stafford, Sarah Stafford , James N. Stafford, Amos B. Stafford .

WEAVER and his partner in the vaudeville act of Stafford &
Company where they spent their lifetime as entertainers.
Upon retiring from the stage, they moved to San Diego,
California, and as far as this compiler knows, they both
died there possibly in the 1940s. They had no children.

I have info on family members, mostly from Ohio if you
want it. I hope this filled in some blanks for you.
There has always been "hear say" that Thomas was our
great great granddad, but I have found no proof of this
at all. There are absolutely no records that tell who
Elizabeth was married to. Do you have proof of your
Thomas? If so, that is the info I've been looking for
for twenty years! (But if you got it from Olive Smith's
book, it was hear say, info given by my father and not
documented info.) She has many things wrong in her
book. I wrote her with info of Robert's other wives
and she refused it saying her line was correct and
complete!
Thank you for writing. I hope that you can make this
out. Write again.

In compiler's "2. BIBLE" file folder attached to photocopies

on the "E.E. STAFFORD & CO., Urbana Ohio" letterhead and the
Queen Ins. Co. of America notepad. On the notepad is the
Grant STAFFORD/Fannie GREGORY family notations listing
children in the handwriting of Effie Evans STAFFORD-85
(1868-1954), granddaughter of Grant STAFFORD. .
!ANOMALY(1):
There is no mention of an A.B. Stafford in Effie Stafford's
notes mentioned above. The census above is the only refer-
ence found thus far by this compiler. Parents: Grant Stafford and Mary (Polly) Moffett.

He was married to Pheriba Breedlove after 1860 in Morgan County, Indiana. Marriage is listed in the Martinsville IN newspaper article concernin g Grant Stafford, father of Amos, entitled A Short History of the Lif e of Grant Stafford, of Olden Times and His Family. A photocopy of t his article which was obtained from the Martinsville, Morgan County P ublic Library will be found in this compiler's ahnentafel file folde r #20-5 for Grant Stafford. No date is given in the article by M. W . Gregory, who was apparently a descendant of the Gregory family of w hich Grant's second wife, Frances (Fanny) Gregory was a member.

bullet Benjamin Stafford(1) was born on 28 May 1810 in Paint Twp, Highland Co., Ohio, USA. He died on 25 Mar 1891 in Clay Twp, Morgan Co., Indiana, USA. From the History of Morgan County, Indiana, copied from biographica l sketches, page 269, Clay Township (photocopies received from the Mo rgan County Public Library in 1998):
BENJAMIN STAFFORD, pioneer farmer of this county, was born in Highlan d County, Ohio, May 28, 1810, and is the third of seven children bor n to Robert and Sarah (Bullick) Stafford, natives of North Carolina , and of English ancestry. Benjamin accompanied his parents from Ohi o to Indiana in 1818. They located in Monroe County, and remained the re until March, 1820, at which time the family came to this county . The county was then a wilderness, and was not then organized, th e Indians roaming at their sweet pleasure through the leafy forests.
Robert entered land, and made a home in the wilderness, amid bears, w olves, panthers and other wild animals, and, with the poorest advanta ges for an education, Benjamin grew to manhood. On Febrauary 15, 1830 , he was married to Ruthie Gifford, a native of Indiana, and a daught er of Jesse and Sarah (Marshall) Gifford. They had one child, Sarah ( deceased), and the mother dying, Mr. Stafford was married to Margare t Price on March 17, 1835. Eight children were born to this union, o f whom six are living-Nancy J. (Woods), John, Marion, William, Benjam in, Bernard and Grant. Mrs. Stafford having departed this life, Mr . Stafford was agin married. He took for his third wife, Mrs. Susan F ry, by whom he has had seven children, of whom six are living-Mary (P assor), James, Priscilla (McKinley), Martha (Myrick), Emeline (Gooch ) and Oliver P.M. Mr. Stafford and wife are members of the Methodis t Episcopal Church. Mr. Stafford began life by clearing out a farm i n the wilderness, and enduring great privations. He has succeeded, an d now owns seventy acres in this township. He alone has made from th e green woods the home which he now occupies. His only help has bee n a faithful and saving wife, who has been indeed a helpmeet(sic) i n all his struggles and adversities. Although Mr. Stafford is sevent y-three years of age, he has a robust constitution and promises to li ve many years of usefulness in the township which he has helped to bu ild up. He is very strong in Christian faith, and faithful in the per formance of his duties, and has read his Bible through nearly fifty t imes during the last twelve years. He could not read a word until h e was forty years old. Mr. Stafford is much prized as a good neighbo r and citizen, and is fully appreciated in the community in which h e has moved so long. Parents: Robert Stafford and Sarah Bullock.

He was married to Margaret Price on 17 Mar 1835 in Morgan County, Indiana, USA.

1 SEP 1825 (Stafford Bible). 1880 census indicates Ohio.
A problem exists when assuming that the Bible record is
correct. His father, Grant, married Mary Moffett in Morgan
County, Indiana, 3 Sep 1827, where Emanuel's siblings were
born. The next oldest, Wiley, was born in 1828 in Indiana.
Is it possible that there was a previous marriage in Ohio
where Emanuel was born?
!MARRIAGE:

sister and brother, Mary Anne BREEDLOVE RIN11 and David C.

!DEATH:
5 AUG 1892 (confirmed by headstone and Stafford Bible). He
was living in Kingman, Kansas where he raised cattle at time
of death. It is family story that he was on a cattle buying
trip to Texas when he died. Body returned to Urbana OH for
burial. (see SOURCE 1 below)
!BURIAL:
Stafford lot, Oak Dale Cemetery, Urbana, Ohio
!RESIDENCES:
Neither Emanuel, nor his father Grant show in the 1850
census index for Ohio indicating that they might not yet
have come to Ohio. Since the above marriage occurred in
1856, arrival was a little after 1850. This supposition is
not supported by the 1880 census which indicated both
father and son were born in Ohio.
The will of his father, Grant Stafford, dated 27(?) Mar 1852
states that Emanuel was in California at that time.
!CENSUS(1):
City of Urbana 1870 shows him age 45 retired - his wife - 4
daughters - his wife's mother, Mary - age given as 67.

incorrect census data. Also her mother, Elizabeth HARE died
in 1803.) Also a Scott W. STAFFORD, age 17, born in Indi-

!CHECK:
Whether first wife died or if there were a divorce is not
known. However, there was a listing in the 1850 Washington
Twp, Morgan County, Indiana census for a Mary Stafford, b. abt
1815 head of a family of 5 children. It is doubtful that this
was the former Mary MOFFETT, Grant Stafford's first wife. It i s more
probable that she was the widow of Grant's brother, James, sinc e her
oldest child was named, James
It is noted that the mother of his second wife, Fanny
Gregory was Lucy Jones (Lucinda) Moffet. Could Lucy have
been a sister of his first wife, Mary Moffett? The Gregory
pedigree chart shall be filed in Grant Stafford ahnentafel
